                      horse riding in morocco

DAY 1

We meet together in Marrakech, but head straight to the Atlantic coast - to Essaouira. The route will take about 3 hours with a lunch break. Today is a calm day, to have a rest after the journey and visit the city – the fortress on which the waves of the ocean crash and which was used in the scenery of Game of Thrones, narrow street of the medina with stalls and a fish port. Seafood is really worth to eat for dinner.

we provide:

transport from Marrakech airport to Essaouira

accomodation in a riad in Essaouira

DAY 2

In the morning, after breakfast we go to the stable and get on the horses. It will be a quiet day – to give you time to make a friendship with your horse - a lot of walking, a little trot and gallop in a line along the beaten paths. Today’s trail will lead through argan groves, if you come in spring the argans will probably be all green after winter rains ; in autumn the landscape may be more burned by the summer sun. By the argans, we will meet grazing camels and goats jumping on trees in search of leaves. We will set up a camp near the remains of a huge sugar cane plantation from the 16th century.

we provide:

3 meals - breakfast, lunch, dinner & snacks & tea/coffee

transport from Essaouira to the stable

5 h horse riding with a guide

tents, mattress, blankets and preparation of the camp

transport of luggage (in a car)

DAY 3

It is the longest day. Mountains, rivers, oleanders and finally the lake – this is the landscape of today. The lake is an artificial reservoir - the result of a dam that regulates the drinking water supply in Essaouira and irrigates agricultural lands. You can see flooded palm trees and houses. The water glistens in the sun and sometimes turns turquoise. We walk around the lake, taking the narrow paths and admiring water from the mountains.

we provide:

3 meals - breakfast, lunch, dinner & snacks & tea/coffee

6 h horse riding with a guide

tents, mattress, blankets and preparation of the camp

transport of luggage  (in a car)

DAY 4

Once again, the path leads over the lake - we go around the other part of the lagoon, climb the mountains with horses in hand, then finally we eat lunch in a dry riverbed. The way forward is by the argans on a wide path that will allow for a bit of a trot and gallop, as well as a bit of socialising and riding side by side rather than in a line. Not far from the camp, we will find an Argan Cooperative - we will leave our horses nearby and visit women working in argan oil production and their oil shop.

we provide:

3 meals - breakfast, lunch, dinner & snacks & tea/coffee

6 h horse riding with a guide

tents, mattress, blankets and preparation of the camp

transport of luggage  (in a car)

DAY 5

We leave the widespread argan trees, the landscape opens up and you can see large spaces and fields. We will then go down to the ravine, where we will water our horses and continue along narrow paths to the ocean. There will be a lot of gorges, narrow paths, riverbeds, and at the end of the day, the Atlantic Sea will emerge from behind the bend. We set up the camp close to the beach so that you will be able to bathe in the ocean after a hard day.

we provide:

3 meals - breakfast, lunch, dinner & snacks & tea/coffee

5 h horse riding with a guide

tents, mattress, blankets and preparation of the camp

transport of luggage  (in a car)

DAY 7

The last day on the horseback – only 26 km separates us from Essaouira. The way leads mainly on the beaches, with a lot of gallops, but also with beautiful views from the cliffs. We will enter large dunes, which in the pictures can easily be confused with desert dunes. We take lunch under eucalyptus trees and take the horses to the stable through the tamarisk groves. We say goodbye to the horses and spend the night in Sidi Kaouki in a guest house with a swimming pool, near to the beach.

we provide:

  LAKE ZERRAR TRAIL

DAY 6

We start the day by going down to the beach. Walking a path amongst argan trees until we reach the beach, walk in the water, turn back and run gallop. After, cooling horse’s legs in the water and leading them in hand through a narrow isthmus on the path on the cliff. Until lunch, the ocean will accompany us below, and we will cover the narrow paths of the cliffs to reach the oasis under the tiny waterfalls. If there is no wind, we will bathe the horses, gallop without saddle and play in the water. After lunch we reach a lot of wide beaches where we can do a lot of gallops.
